My Ranking:

Fire In The Sheets Ranking:

Steamy with a little flame (3.5): To Enthrall The Demon Lord is a romance that does touch on the dark side, however this is not a dark romance. Some scenes involving the heroine’s past can touch on some uncomfortable subjects, but are only mildly detailed in memory form. This book contains sexual scenes that are well described and will get you hot and bothered. The hero is a possessive yet protective and understanding lover that wants to heal his women’s past wounds. My review:

To Enthrall The Demon Lord was a read that came with a fire I did not expect. If you have read the other books in the series, which I suggest you do, you know a little bit about the back ground of Arawn and Maeve but only enough to wet your reading glasses. This book brings all the hints and little treats of the story about the hero and heroine together in a spectacular way.

The notorious Demon Lord Arawn’s is both feared and respected among the fae and demon community. Not much is known about what he is exactly, but what is known is his power and that he can help anyone out of their problems, but everything has a cost. When Maeve’s sister Merle came begging for his assistance in helping her save Maeve’s life in book one, the price was an unsaid debt which leaves Merle at his disposal until the day he comes to collect.

The character development displayed here is phenomenal! It can be hard enough in books to show true believable character development in a single book, but to show this level of development through a series is mind blowing. Maeve was kidnapped, raped, and tortured by a demon before her sister Merle rescued her with help from Arawn and Merle’s demon lover. Plagued by PTSD born from haunting memories of her past, Maeve has hidden herself away from everyone, but that doesn’t mean she has no idea what’s going on. When Merle’s service to Arawn starts to threaten the life of her unborn baby, Maeve knows it’s time to settle up on the debt owed to Arawn and bring him what he wants, her.

On an emotional level, this book blew my expectations away. Arawn and Maeve’s emotional and physical connection is apparent to both of them right from the start. Arawn is impressed by Maeve’s bravery and while Maeve finds Arawn frightening, the way she addresses him and acts around him shows her returned attraction to him. When Arawn breaks her link to her sister and instead binds her to him, their new found connection only grows whether or not Maeve wants it to.

Nadine Mutas’ portrays the turmoil of Maeve’s PTSD extremely well through both constant fear and violent flashbacks all mixed with a strong punch of magic that Maeve can’t control. Every time I read these scenes, my heart broke for Maeve while my curiosity about her hidden powers grew. The book does an amazing job of plunging into deep emotions while keeping an air of dangerous mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat.

Yet even with her PTSD and the sad mystery of her past, I found myself feeling more sorry for, and falling more for Arawn’s character, particularly when his past is revealed. Arawn’s personality, when he is away from prying eyes that might take advantage of weaknesses, is actually very caring. The way he treats Maeve, even before he realizes he’s in love with her is so tender and sweet. He wants to heal her emotional wounds and free her from the past that has shackled her away from her life. He does everything in his power to make her free to be her, even if it leaves him stiff and hurting.

Honestly the love that’s felt between these two characters is off the charts good. I found myself swooning over every little encounter, that is when I wasn’t laughing. If you’re a fan of Nadine Mutas then you know she likes to inject humor throughout her books; in this story, you find the most side splitting moments in the built sexual tension between the characters.

Overall:

To Enthrall The Demon Lord was a delight to read. I fell in love with the characters and the series even more than I was before. When a book can surprise me in a good way multiple times I consider that to be a very well written and throughout work of art.

Would I recommend it:

I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes romance. By the end of this you will be hot, swooning, and your reading specs will be sufficiently steamed. The only time I would causation readers away from this book is if they have triggers that might make the read uncomfortable or emotionally hard for them. If it wasn’t for this book having a 2017 release date, it might have made my top ten favorites for the year, and still might
